    Joy I really appreciate you for sharing your culture with us. I finished reading and reviewing Legend Of The Walking Dead and it was fascinating. I think it is a healthy outlook to look at death as just the beginning instead of the end as we seem to do in our American culture. Learning more about you helps me to see who I am. I have not tried yet to trace my ancestry back to African nations but I have started it. I’m back to the 1800s Tennessee. I didn’t know my families roots were there because my mother was raised in Oklahoma and California. We are so mixed up in this country until we don’t really know who we are fully. I think its so important to know your culture and who you are. Good job Joy!

My people are so rooted to the land that we always return to it no matter were we are, or how long away we have been. Do you know that when one of us die here, in this county, even though we are citizens, we carry them home? I was telling my daughter, the other day, that if she doesn’t bury me back home, I will haunt her until she does. 🙂

        I have always admired how your culture reverence the dead. Even your ceremonies are so special. My friend, Roseline Onwenu, buried her brother in law and it went on til dawn. Of course, I wasn’t up to hanging out that long, but it was different. I went to a New Orleans funeral at a Catholic church here, where they played trumpets and horns and found that fascinating as well. I’d like to know what they think of the afterlife. I also took note as to how pious and reverent the African priest were living in this country temporarily before they went home; or just visiting here as interns. I was working at a catholic church where I got inspired to write my Catholic story and where I became good friends with a Nigerian priest and met the seminarians. I have to tell you a sad story about one of our African priest some other time. Hmmm. Maybe I’ll blog about it.

          Thank you Shirley for showing this much interest in my culture. We really believe that death is not final. In the past, the death was buried with implements that will help him/her navigate his/her way through the journey to the spirit world.
