On CNN yesterday, the question was raised about whether anyone cared about the activities of Boko Haram in Nigeria, and the answer was swift. The respondent said that the world should care. He further stated that if the UN had taken action three years ago when Boko Haram first reared its head, that the story would have been different today. The respondent also noted that the activities of Boko Haram is slowly, but quietly spreading into neighboring countries to Nigeria, and will continue to spread if they are not stopped.
This is just like the proverbial saying that what happens to any part of the body, affects all parts of the body. The world today is but a country. No one country should fold her hands and act as if what is happening in another country, no matter how far away, does not affect her. They may not see the effect immediately, but eventually, the effect will manifest.
I am happy to read, after my initial concerns, that America is still at work in Nigeria trying to find and free the girls. I am equally happy to read that Nigeria, after her initial stand of having “wrapped up” her investigations, has now vowed to continue the search. I can spy the effect of my refusal to back off harping on this matter.
(We will continue).
