Day 164! ………………How Did We Get Here? (115)

“Nigeria: Report Chibok girl freed, identity doubts”

When the Nigerian police announced with fanfare the release or escape of one of the Chibok girls, I suspected that they were looking for cheap popularity, something to make us think that they are winning the battle against Boko Haram. Now, the doubt is deepening. The allegedly freed girl has still not spoken. She could be any girl from any other abduction other than that of Chibok. The police are not talking anymore, and it is possible that they will let this die down without any further mention.

“Nigerian parents mulling funerals for kidnapped girls: Brown”

I am happy to notice that the former British prime minister is still pushing for the release of our girls. Thank you Mr. Brown, and your efforts will never be forgotten. Efforts from many others who have remained resilient in pushing for the release of those girls will not be forgotten. The time seems nearing for all to be acknowledged and thanked properly. As long as there is hope that these girls will return, no funeral will be held for them. We do not bury people alive, and those girls are still alive.

“THE Nigerian government and Boko Haram are close to a deal on releasing 219 schoolgirls that the radical Islamist group kidnapped five months ago, according to media reports.”

This news here is a bit old, about two weeks old, but recently, President Jonathan, during his independence speech, reiterated it by promising that he is still working to free the girls. We are still praying that he does so soon, and that this should not be just a re-election ploy. These girls should not be used for political propaganda.

(We will continue.)

Day 163! ………………How Did We Get Here? (114)

“Report: ISIS Puts Literal Price Tags on Abducted Girls”

Above is a news that will definitely give Boko Haram the idea of doing the same thing as ISIS. If we can remember, Boko Haram had threatened to sell the Chibok girls as soon as the news of their abduction went viral. It is not clear now who is copying who, but the fact remains that ISIS or Boko Haram is the same to me. Both are working on the same agenda, hoping and fighting to take over the whole world a little at time. They have forgotten what happened to murderers before them who tried to take over the world, and failed. They will meet the same end, all of them.

“Boko Haram fears mean low key Eid celebration in Nigeria”

The Eid is one time that one would expect Boko Haram to give, even the adherents of their faith, a break, being that they claim to be Moslems and fighting the cause of Islam. But no, they crave large gatherings during such celebrations to show their bestiality.

“Nigeria: Military Reclaims Bama After Battle With Boko Haram”

According to a latest news, our Military is beginning to show their pulse against Boko Haram. This is good indeed, and we pray that it continues. However, another latest news tells us that Boko Haram is still undaunted in their pursuit of shaming the Nigerian Military, and cowing the Nigerian nation, as this following headline indicates. Nevertheless, I will keep rooting for our Military, and praying for them to win this battle. Boko Haram must be destroyed.

“Nigeria: Boko Haram Seizes Gulak Town”

No matter what they do, no matter what they claim happened, Boko Haram must be destroyed!

(We will continue.)

Day 162! ………………How Did We Get Here? (113)

“Nigeria military rejects Boko Haram jet, execution claims”

“The picture of a man beheaded in the video is superimposed,” he said without elaborating. “Our plane is still missing and we are looking for it. Boko Haram is just making unfounded claims.”

I know that we have not heard the last of the above Heading and Rebuttal from the Nigerian authorities. At least, Boko Haram has shown some evidence to support their claim. There is no evidence for the authorities’ rebuttal.

“Embattled Nigeria states halt travel over holiday threats”

These Northern states, Yobe Borno and Adamawa, are under lockdown during this most important Muslim ceremony because of Boko Haram. Shouldn’t Boko Haram be taking a break too? No, of course. They use occasions like this to perform their brutalities.

“US to Launch Border Security Program in Nigeria”

“A top diplomat says the U.S. will soon launch a major border security program to help Nigeria and neighboring countries fight the militant group Boko Haram.”

I just came across this news, and was about to jump for joy when I stopped to check the date, and alas! This happened on August 14, 2014. What happened America? Why have you abandoned us?

(We will continue.)

Day 161! ………………How Did We Get Here? (112)

“Boko Haram video shows beheading of Nigeria pilot”

“A new Boko Haram video shows the beheading of a man identified as the pilot of a missing Nigerian Air Force jet and burnt out parts of a plane —“

The above is new from Boko Haram. A few weeks ago, the Nigerian government reported that one of their fighter jets had gone missing. I remember having commented on that. After that news, nothing was heard about the jet again. Boko Haram has now come out to claim downing the plane and beheading the pilot. So that chapter should now be closed. At least we know what happened to the missing plane. The way Boko Haram disposed of the pilot is no news at all, nothing different from their modus operandi. Case closed!

“Boko Haram ‘leader’ denies death reports”

“Abubakar Shekau: Boko Haram’s ‘living’ leader”

We have more of these screaming headlines about Abubakar Shekau’s victory over death. There are many others making the same claims. I have chosen only two to reiterate the fact that his life, no matter how his members want to romanticize it, or how the Nigerian police hinging on his demise, as if the two positions will validate, on the one hand, or end the atrocities of Boko Haram. The comment below, which has been widely reported, is what I believe is actually taking place.

“Speculation about the wanted Islamist leader’s condition — and even his true identity — has been rampant in Nigeria for years.”

Day 160! ………………How Did We Get Here? (111)

“Nigeria cannot be transformed overnight – Jonathan”

With Nigeria at 54, the president is talking about an overnight transformation. No wonder the governing body always treated Nigeria as a toothless baby. So 54 years is too soon for us to see concrete changes and real growth in Nigeria?… Or perhaps, he was talking about himself, not having enough time to leave his imprint on the Nigerian growth. Whichever it is, Nigeria at 54 is way behind in development. Every infrastructure in Nigeria, built by our past and luminary political fathers, have failed due to lack of maintenance. Nothing works, and the man is out there thumping his chest. He should name one thing that works, or one that he started that works.

“How I made my money, fathered 30 children -Atiku”

This headline is not only nauseating, but shows how small minded some of our men are. He has that many children, but he did not say from how many wives, the ages of these wives, and how many children from each wife, seeing we are dealing with the absurd. He wants us to believe that he made his money building and renting houses, and not from stealing oil money, a Nigerian politician?! He should tell that to the marines. As far as I know, if he is a politician in Nigeria, he is one of the thieves. You can all see how shameless some Nigerian elites are?

“Boko Haram: 3 jailed 75 years”

Just a few word here. Even in court, members of Boko Haram killers wore their masks, and the judge allowed it.

“Boko Haram leader dismisses claims of his death in new video”

Just another few word, who cares whether this man is dead or alive. Stop the miscreants.

(We will continue.)

Day 159! ………………How Did We Get Here? (110)

“$9.3m arms deal: Oritsejafor opens up”

The story about this apparently stolen millions is beginning to unfold. Still no one has owned up as owner of the money, not even the government who was used as excuse for smuggling the money, not even the Military who purportedly was to use the money in buying arms. Everyone is pointing fingers at everyone else. Even the preacher whose private plane was used in smuggling the money has come up with his own excuses and finger pointing. At least, if he wants us to believe him, he should reveal the name or names of those who hired the plane. There must be a manifesto. Right now, there is a big cover-up going on, but the truth will always surface.

“Nigeria’s campaigning president says “turning tide” against Islamists”

Yesterday, during his Independence speech, President Jonathan bragged about his achievements, and the bravery of the Military in tackling Boko Haram. He tried to make light the exploits of Boko Haram, but that is only in his mind. He must be myopic if he cannot see what is happening around him, Boko Haram is still on the surge, and bent on shaming him and the whole country. He may end up winning a re-election, because, of all those challenging him, he seems to be the lesser evil, but the specter of those girls will hang over his head until they return.

“Nigeria court martials soldiers for balking at taking on Boko Haram”

These Nigerian soldiers are the reflection of what Nigeria has become. A country of cheats at all levels of the society, people who will sell their souls for a bowl of porridge. As much as I do not want to meddle into Military affaires, the Military reflects us. We are them, and they are us.

(We will continue.)

Day 158! ………………How Did We Get Here? (109)

“Boko Haram: Red Cross negotiates Chibok girls swap”

Although this news happened on the 12th. of September, 2014, it is heartening to know that the Red Cross is working behind the scenes to assist with the release of the girls. The fact that the Red Cross is involved gives us hope. If those girls are all alive, the Nigerian government should reconsider their stand about the exchange of prisoners. Boko Haram’s prisoners may be hardened criminals, but they are also marked, and will probably be recaptured again soon, or killed. So I beg the president to reconsider his stand for the sake of those girls.

“12 convicted soldiers don’t deserve to die –Poll”

They have taken a poll in Nigeria to know whether the Military has the right to execute those in their rank and file who performed the unpardonable. They pointed their arms on their superior. The poll says that over 80% of the respondents do not want the soldiers to be killed. My view on this is that civilians should keep out of the affaires of the Military. It should not be our concern at all what the Military decides to do. All we want from the Military is that they should use the same measure to deal with those amongst them who steal funds meant for arms, and the saboteurs who are Boko Haram’s informants.

“Boko Haram looting our armoury – DHQ” (Defense Head Quarters)

Especially those who inform Boko Haram about when and how to attack and loot Military armories. They should know who these people are, flush them out, and court marshal them. Those are the real enemies of the country.

(We will continue.)

Day 157! ………………How Did We Get Here? (108)

“Is Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau alive or dead? Yes.”

I just wanted to comment on these headlines that keep popping up. In one of my later blogs, I stated that for Boko Haram, it did not make any difference whether their leader is dead or not. They have no respect for life, not even their own, so, that one leader is dead or not hasn’t stopped their surge. That Boko Haram is using their dead leader’s name as a fear factor, shows how cowardly they really are. These masked destroyers are not man enough to show their faces.

“Nigerian schoolgirl freed by extremists comes home”

This Nigerian girl hasn’t spoken yet. We will like to hear her story before deciding who she rally is. I would love to know that she is one of the missing Chibok girls. If she is, she should be able to tell us more about the other girls, and the state of their captivity. Until then, we should just patiently wait for her to tell her story.

“Nigerian Schoolgirl Released, but Boko Haram Terror Attacks Continue”

This last headline validates the observations I made on the top headline. Boko Haram continues to rampage north east of Nigeria in spite of everything. Even as we write, news is still filtering our about their latest assaults. Even with hundreds of them surrendering to law enforcement, the rest are still out there performing their atrocities.

The bottom-line is that until these hoodlums or their remnants are apprehended or annihilated, we should not sleep easy.

(We will continue.)

Day 156! ………………How Did We Get Here? (107)

“Boko Haram: Davis links funding to agent in Cairo”

This Dr. Stephen Davis whose write-up I read this morning, was a negotiator, a middle man for both Boko Haram and the Nigerian government in 2013, and what he revealed is what we always knew was happening. That some Nigeria’s wealthy, specially those from the North, where nearly 80% of the country’s wealth is held by a few, these are mainly past retired Military generals, who not only ruled Nigeria for the longest period with guns, but also succeeded in amassing almost all the oil wealth into their hands, now use this extreme wealth to sponsor the activities of Boko Haram.

This is not news, in fact it is an open secret if we can call it that. The president himself has always said he knew who they were. The secret service, is said to also know who these people are, but they must be so sacred that no one dares touch them. This is the North’s way of cowing the rest of the country, so that they can rule for ever. But this is a misguided plan, as I have severally mentioned.

The North can only rule for ever if they separate from the South. It is still not clear why the president has not declared a total war on Boko Haram, why he believes that throwing money at the generals will solve the problem. It could be that those same sponsors, whom he claims he knows, some of whom are inside his government, have cowed him enough to silence him into submission. Whatever the case, his actions are suspicious.

(We will continue.)

Day 155! ………………How Did We Get Here? (106)

“Nigeria senate approves military loan as militants raid villages”

I look out for these headings and search through the news to see what the Nigerian government is doing differently from what we already know. The above is no news at all. This money will disappear as usual, and the battle against Boko Haram would not have even started. No amount of money will assuage the top Military brass. As far as they are concerned, this is their time to bleed the nation dry, their time to have their pound of flesh, their time to have a piece of their national cake. As long as we understand this, no one should fret when in another month we hear that the Military needs more money.

And what did the senate mean by loaning money to the Military? We Nigerians are such jokers, and we have mastered ways of making fools of ourselves. However can a nation loan money to her Military for the Military to defend the nation? It doesn’t make any sense at all, but only to those who decided on calling this money a loan. How did they figure out that the Military will pay back this loan? Jokers all of them!

Another news is about this lone girl from the Chibok abduction, who escaped. Rather than wait for the girl to recover and tell her story, the Military and the police are out with fanfare reporting this escape, as if they made it happen. If tomorrow that girl proves not to be from among the Chibok girls, retraction will begin. Please get your facts right before you go to press.

(We will continue.)
