Day 125! ………………How Did We Get Here? (76)

The story behind the Nigerian troop that fled into Cameroon is widening, and becoming more intricate and complicated. One thing is clear about this. Nothing can ever justify such an action by a country’s defense force. So no amount of explanations or clarification can justify it. The defense headquarters calls it a “tactical maneuver,” while an anonymous soldier on the ground describes it as “running out of ammunition” when they had to engage Boko Haram a second time the same day. The question now is, what happens to the top brass responsible for this lapse? And what will President Jonathan do about it?

Let us wait and see. Now that the runaway soldiers are said to be on their way back to Nigeria after surrendering their arms to the Cameroonian forces, we would like to know their names and ranks. What a shame!

We have Boko Haram desperately trying to remain in the news, and current, by challenging the Nigerian forces on all fronts, and also by hoping that the world will forget the atrocity of the 270 schools girls they abducted, anything to create distractions and diversions, and the military has given them even more exposure. Now Boko Haram has one more thing to gloat about. What a mess!

With all these confusion going on, no one is talking anymore about the abducted Chibok girls. Just what Boko Haram wants, and who knows, maybe the authorities too, to lessen the pressure on them to find the girls.

Day 124! ………………How Did We Get Here? (75)

Wonders shall never end! News coming from Cameroon says that 450 Nigerian soldiers fled into Cameroon running from Boko Haram’s attack. The Nigerian response to this is that they were chasing Boko Haram and found themselves across the border into in the Cameroon territory. Who to believe?! Not only did they take refuge in Cameroon, they went there with all their arms, tanks and pickup trucks. Being so heavily armed, wouldn’t Cameroon have consider them a threat? Certainly. This goes to say that they fled into Cameroon for refuge, and not with the intention of attacking Cameroon. Therefore, I am inclined to believe the Cameroon’s story.

This shows once again that Nigeria does not have security forces. How can the military live this down, apart from the attempts to cover it up. 450 armed soldiers running away from a band of ragamuffins! Here in Nigeria, we describe this as, “We don die finish,” meaning, the country is done for, another expression, but I will leave it at that. I am beginning to really feel sorry for President Jonathan. As the first authentic civilian president of Nigeria, the forces are no giving him any chance of success at all. Other presidents before him have been military men who went from their uniforms to, as we say again in Nigeria, “agbada.” Although they were not in their uniforms, they were still military men with military mentality, and military way of doing things.

This is the legacy left for President Jonathan, to work with a damaged military, a military not used to working with a civilian president, and a military which is now a shell of its former self.

Day 123! ………………How Did We Get Here? (74)

Finally, we are beginning to hear belated but few discords from the nation of Islam against the butchery of ISIS in Iraq and Syria. Muslims in Nigeria have not made any attempt to criticize the murderous Boko Haram. The only discordant voice was suspect. He is believed to have done it for political reasons.

I said it yesterday. Boko Haram was making an empty brag when they claimed to have formed a Caliphate in the North east of Nigeria. I am surprised that their bleary eyed leader Abubakar Shekau has not declared himself the Caliph. That will probably be his next move. No country, in these modern terms will stand by and watch a gang of brigands take over any part of their country, and brag about it. The clock is ticking for this group, and no matter what they claim or do, they will soon meet their waterloo.

The two dissenting voices from the Muslim world we heard recently, the first, the Grand Mufti of Egypt, Shawki Allam, top Islamic authority, said to be revered world-wide, wants the world to stop calling ISIS Islamic warriors, to call them instead, al-Qaida Separatists. The second, King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia wants us to separate Islam from the Muslim world, whatever that means. I disagree with both of them! These murderers, whether in Iraq, Syria, or Nigeria are out-shoots of Islam. They fight, kill and destroy in the name of Islam. Islam and all the adherents of Islam must take full responsibility for the actions of these groups.

(We will continue.)

Day 122! ………………How Did We Get Here? (73)

Boko Haram is today bragging about their wins, and about their success in creating a Caliphate in the North east of Nigeria. I do not see this ever happening, and I am sure they too know it is not possible. The only way this might be possible is that those parts they are claiming will not become part of Nigeria in the long run. I cannot envisage that ever happening in this modern times. Such adventure will never succeed, and will never be allowed to take root. This is why I do not understand why those marauders are still out destroying lives and properties.

The failures of the Nigerian Military to end this harassment is simply the North holding the rest of the country ransom. The sponsors of this murderous group are sitting, folding their arms, and waiting to see the outcome of these onslaughts. By the time this is all over, they may have no country to rule, Caliphate or no Caliphate. The real problem is that the North wants the North only for Northerners, but how can this be, if the North is also a part of the whole country?

Unless, as I suspect, they want the north of themselves, and want to south also to control. Whichever way we look at it, the North wants it all, and they want to get it by not actually declaring an outright war, but by conducting an indirect and covert war on the country, a war they hope will allows them to rule over the country ad infinitum, so they bring in outsiders, protect and arm them to do their dirty work.

(We will continue.)

Day 121! ………………How Did We Get Here? (72)

Just as ISIS is getting out of hand, and getting more difficult to control, Boko Haram in Nigeria is slowly but surely becoming too strong that to root them out will take more than the Nigeria Military. I have said this before, and I say it again, Nigerians must unite against Boko Haram, especially now that it is clear we have no security forces. President Jonathan must know that the onus is on him to lead the way. The more he waits, the more those blood suckers are inching in.

Today, we hear that they have even taken over a Police training school in Gwoza, near those areas of their operation, and that they are now aiming at taking over bigger cities. What is the government doing? They are still setting up committees to study how to root out Boko Haram, while Boko Haram is continuing with their onslaughts on a daily basis. This is really very frustrating! So now Boko Haram has more arms seized from this new assault.

It is unfortunate that the whole country is watching and waiting. Those abducted girls must by now have lost all hope of ever gaining their freedom. The more I think of it, the more it pains me that this whole thing is still dragging on. Boko Haram can be up-rooted. Nigeria has done it before, but we need the will to do so. I also suspect that the Military which is made up of over fifty percent of Northerners may not want this mess, created by the Northerners to go away. They are definitely, secretly fueling it.

(We will continue.)

Day 120! ………………How Did We Get Here? (71)

It is very disturbing to find out that Boko Haram in Nigeria could be getting their directives from ISIS in Iraq and Syria. The same questions asked today by well meaning people on why this murderous groups were not taken out as soon as they reared their heads, is also asked about Boko Haram. Also while some Muslim groups are paying lip service against the groups, we hear that the groups are very well funded. It would seem that the Muslims of this world are saying one thing for the benefit of us all, but doing something else in secret. This is exactly what is happening in Nigeria. A few Muslim leaders are voicing out against Boko Haram for political reasons, but still sponsoring Boko Haram secretly.

We are told that Islam requires that any adherent with means, MUST support any form of Jihad, and could these people truly claim to be on Jihad? We have also learnt that apart from the outward atrocities which we are subjected to by these groups, behind the scene, they are worse than animals. Those sins they kill and mutilate openly for, are committed by them to worse levels; they use drugs to dull their blood letting, they rape women and possibly men too, even if they are openly against homosexuality. Their shepherd boys and men have sex with the animals they shepherd, they drink and smoke in private, yet openly, they kill and maim because of these abominations.

They will stone a woman to death for adultery, but nothing will be heard about the man who committed the adultery with the woman. So much falsehood, so much inconsistencies, so much lies, so much double face …

(We will continue.)

Day 119! ………………How Did We Get Here? (70)

It is true that when one finger points at someone, the remaining four fingers point back at the pointer. When the North unleashed the Boko Haram mayhem on the rest of Nigeria, hoping that it will distract the nation from the truth, they did not know that it could backfire. The way things are going today shows that it has backfired. Boko Haram’s onslaughts seem to be wasted efforts, a wasting of lives and properties, nothing else. It has not, and will not bring the North any gains whatsoever. It has only opened the eyes of even Northern Christians to the games of their feudal lords, who will go to any extent go keep the North perennially poor, and even make assaults on the South.

How dare these obtuse lords, who only think of themselves, and use others to fight their battles to entrench their rule. Shame on all those so ignorant and gullible to listen to them and allow themselves to be used. President Jonathan will probably win a reelection only because of the sins of the Northern lords. The whole country may rally around and see that no Northerner wins because of all their machinations and the spill of blood. In spite of President Jonathan’s weaknesses and inadequacies, he still stands better chance than any of those known and un-known Northern lords, who in planning his downfall, might have instead, helped him to overcome.

If President Jonathan wins, my prayer for him is that he does not repeat the sins, his sins of the past, his mistakes of the past. I would rather someone stronger willed wins.

(We will continue.)

Day 118! ………………How Did We Get Here? (69)

I was wondering about the whys of the brutalities and atrocities of Boko Haram, when I stumbled on worse crimes committed by the so called ISIS in Iraq and Syria. Boko Haram members must have been schooled by the likes of ISIS for they go by the same signature. I have also learned that those who supported ISIS on the onset are now dissociating themselves from them after seeing how much destruction and damage they rain, not only on the people but also on their holy places. ISIS is also abducting women as sex slaves, and young boys as employees, and many young boys and men are flocking to join them because they are paid to fight.

It is doubtful if Boko Haram pays their own abductees. This is why these insurgents should not be taken for granted. They must be stopped immediately, anytime and anywhere they rear their heads. Thy should not be allowed to spread. The similarities between Boko Haram and ISIS are too much to be overlooked. This is also why I have recently started calling on all Nigerians to unite and root them out. They have even become a danger for those same people that created and supports them. By now, I am sure these supporters can now see that the monster they created is not the answer to their problem, have never been, and will never be.

Boko Haram is simply a very unsavory chapter in the lives of the Nigerians, and a chapter we all want to forget. The only way to forget this bad dream is to destroy it, and root it out completely.

(We will continue.)

Day 117! ………………How Did We Get Here? (68)

We hear that the Nigerian Military has finally mutinied. These are the same people we have been calling on the powers that be, to disband and re-constitute. We have also been calling on the government to sack the generals under whom the poorly equipped Military serve. They, the generals should be held responsible for any action taken by the personnel serving under them, and if these men mutiny, their generals have also mutinied, and all of them should go.

We hope President Jonathan will have the courage to dismiss these people now that he has been given the opportunity to do so. Let us see what he does.

It was a very heartening news to learn this morning that one of Nigeria’s relentless crime fighters, Malam Nuhu Ribadu is now vying for the governorship of his home State under the umbrella of President Jonathan’s own party. He just crossed over. This is one man I will vote for in the hope that he will rid Nigeria of corruption, even though he is from the North, and it is not their turn to rule. Nigeria needs someone like this man who can root out the thieves and expose them. He has proved himself in the past, and I know that given the chance, he will turn Nigeria back on the right path. Let us continue to hope.

Corruption in high and low places is the bane of Nigeria, and anyone who promises to fight and eliminate it is the man after my own heart no matter where he comes from.

(We will continue.)

Day 116! ………………How Did We Get Here? (67)

Yesterday, I started talking about how the rest of Nigeria, not affected by Boko Haram’s menace, is acting as if that problem is not their problem. Unfortunately, it is also their problem. It is true that the North created and nurtures this problem, but if we want the country to remain one, then all should join hands and see that this evil called Boko Haram is destroyed.

It is best we fight our common enemy first, and then tackle the enemy in the house later. The North has not only created this problem, but they compound it by making the North the breading ground for the creation of groups like Boko Haram. The poverty in the North is self inflicted. The northern states get allocations every year like all other States in Nigeria, but what they do with their allocation is another thing altogether. If the governors of the North are using allocations for development, the poverty in the North would have lessened. We know that they use their allocations to get themselves, they families and friends out of their own poverty, and the rest in the State, both people and services, is left abject.

However, Boko Haram is now a national problem, not just a northern problem. The whole country should not stand and watch as those hoodlums over-run the country, because they could if left to continue as thing are right now. The whole country should rise up against Boko Haram or else, we will have ourselves to blame. They should be stopped now before they do further harm.

(We will continue.)
